Some Tips

If you're new to character creation or unsure how to get started, here are some helpful tips:

Be aware of the Token Usage

A character usually have 500-1000 tokens, covering personality traits, scenario details, and example quotes. Aiming for this range helps solidify your character's personality traits and responsiveness to your setup. Using too many tokens may affect the character's memory.

Using short sentences

Instead of long ones in Personality. This could save your tokens, and it's easier for the bot to understand your definition.

Trait Assignment

  1. Scenarios: Insert specific dislikes, fears, or desires directly in the scenario to improve clarity and adherence.

Example: [Character Name] dislikes video games and avoids them after being electrocuted during one.

  1. Weighting Words: Use high-weight words to enhance the influence of certain personality traits. Characters tend to interpret strong traits more consistently. Placing key traits in the scenario box can ensure they are prioritized over weaker descriptors.

Using Intentionality

  1. Tailor the character’s depth based on its purpose. For example:

Therapy-focused characters need minimal physical descriptors, while romantic or action-oriented characters may benefit from a richer backstory.

  1. Avoid unnecessary details that don’t serve your intended purpose.

Speech Patterns

  1. Accent/Style: Instead of setting accents within the bot’s settings, edit dialogues to reflect the accent, and keep it consistent. This method ensures clearer communication in the desired style.

  2. Third-Person: If using a third-person speaking style, apply the same strategy.

Understanding Memory

Short-Term vs. Long-Term: Bots use recent chat history as “short-term memory,” while scenario and context boxes function as “long-term memory.” Place crucial information in these boxes for sustained relevance.

Scenario Structuring

Build a scene that outlines the setting, character roles, and objectives clearly. For instance:

"You snuck into an abandoned mall, rumored to be guarded by old security robots. Can you survive the night?"

Practical Tips

  1. Traits Like “Romantic” or “Horny”: These alone don’t create explicit behavior but can be combined with related traits for a stronger effect.

  2. Example Chats: These help enforce specific language use, reinforce personality, and influence the character’s likelihood to respond in certain ways. Example chats do not change writing style, but longer, well-constructed examples improve overall quality.

Creating Depth in Interactions

  1. Use descriptions of place, actions, and character positions to improve immersive detail.

  2. Pacing: Skip through less relevant interactions, and focus on developing scenes that enhance the overall experience.

  3. Ensure Continuity: When inconsistencies appear, address them in real time to prevent derailments.

Preview Before Publishing

Eager to publish? Hold on—first, use the preview feature to chat with your character. Once you’re happy with the results in preview mode, go ahead and publish.

Keep Updating

If inspiration strikes later, feel free to update your character. Good characters often need refining.

Enjoy your creation journey!
